Key Responsibilities
- Project Development (40%):
- Draft Project Design Documents (PDDs): Draft detailed Project Design Documents, ensuring they meet the required criteria and standards for energy-related offset projects.
- Carbon Feasibility and Baseline Studies: Conduct carbon feasibility and baseline studies assessing the technical, economic, and environmental viability of projects.
- Project Planning: Devise and maintain comprehensive project work plans to ensure efficient and timely implementation.
- Validation, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification Activities: Support Validation, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) activities in compliance with Gold Standard, Verra, and other protocols.
- Research and Analysis (20%):
- Carbon Market Research: Conduct carbon market research to identify and evaluate opportunities in the energy sector.
- EOI Submission: Provide technical support for EOIs related to energy consultancies.
- Continual Education and Research: Pursue ongoing education on carbon market trends, pricing mechanisms, and regulatory changes.
- Policy Research: Analyze and maintain an up-to-date database of energy regulatory and policy developments across Africa.
- Documentation Analysis: Assess technical documents to support carbon opportunity scoping.
- Stakeholder Relations (20%):
- Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate stakeholder engagement throughout the carbon project development cycle, including pre-engagement planning, grassroots community consultations, and benefit-sharing discussions.
- Development and Presentation of Reports and Presentations: Develop and deliver clear, impactful reports and presentations on carbon reduction initiatives and their outcomes, ensuring methodologies and results are accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, private sector partners, communities, and other stakeholders to support project success and long-term collaboration.
- Strategy Development (10%):
- Develop and recommend innovative strategies: Maximize carbon reductions and optimize the impact of energy projects, tailoring solutions to project-specific requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams: Translate strategic objectives into practical and implementable project solutions.
- Lead tools and guidelines development: Drive the continual refinement of tools, guidelines, and best practices to enhance project effectiveness and alignment with emerging standards.
- Risk Management & Problem Solving (10%):
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks: Proactively manage risks associated with energyrelated carbon projects, including environmental, technical, regulatory, and stakeholder aspects.
- Apply problem-solving skills: Address project challenges, generate creative solutions, and ensure timely resolution of obstacles during implementation.
- Monitor and adapt risk mitigation strategies: Track the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures and adjust strategies as necessary to safeguard project objectives and outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
- Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline with strong relevance to energy systems and sustainability.
- Professional Experience: 2–4 years of experience in clean energy project development— especially in clean cooking, electrification, or distributed renewable energy solutions. Experience in carbon project development will be an added advantage.
- Carbon Market Knowledge: Familiarity with carbon standards such as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Gold Standard, Verra (VCS), and relevant Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks.
- Carbon Accounting and Energy Management Standards: Familiarity with internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14064 (GHG Emissions Quantification and Verification), ISO 14067 (Greenhouse Gases — Carbon Footprint of Products), ISO 14040/14044 (Life Cycle Assessment), and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).
