Job Summary

The Digital Communications Officer will be instrumental in executing the Open Institute’s communications strategy, focusing on the curation and production of high-quality digital content. The ideal candidate is a creative and data-driven storyteller with a proven ability to strategically optimize content to enhance engagement, increase web traffic, and elevate brand awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement social media strategies across various digital channels, including social media, email marketing, and website content, aligned with organizational goals.
  • Plan and execute social media campaigns and promotions to enhance awareness of our programming initiatives.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive social media content calendar.
  • Generate, edit, publish, and share high-quality, engaging content across all digital platforms that reflects the brand’s voice and tone; ensuring originality in text, images, videos, and news.
  • Manage social media accounts, including the design of cover images, profile pictures, and blog layouts.
  • Foster and manage an engaged online community as part of our advocacy and outreach strategy.
  • Monitor and analyze social media performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Conduct social listening and research on industry trends, competitive landscape, and audience preferences to inform content strategy and maintain up-to-date knowledge of digital technologies and social media trends.
  • Utilize social media marketing tools and analytics, including SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics, to optimize content and achieve results.
  • Support the execution of the communications strategy and plans.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments and program teams to design and disseminate content that raises awareness of their work among partners, stakeholders, and donors.
  • Stay informed about social media trends, technologies, and design tools and applications.

Key Competencies

  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in web content, social media management, and digital communications, preferably within a nonprofit or advocacy context.
  • Experience in content management, copywriting, and creative content generation.
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing and video editing software, such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere.
  • Strong knowledge of social media management tools, social media analytics reporting, and platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
  • Solid understanding of SEO, keyword research, Google Analytics, and online marketing channels.
  • Familiarity with web design and user experience best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and a creative mindset.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about social media, digital technologies, and online marketing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite tools.
  • High level of agility and ability to multitask.
